Company History

The Breed Street Clinic opened on January 27, 1994, after the owners of the former Deakin Street Clinic in Traralgon recognised a need to expand.

A vacant block at 37 Breed Street had been selected and the new clinic constructed. At the time of opening the Breed Street Clinic had the capacity to house eight doctors plus administrative and nursing staff.

Doctors Neville Steer, Richard Cristofaro, Roger Fitzgerald and Allin Marrow led the medical team at the time. Others on staff were Dr Pauline Field, Dr Ruth Elmore and Dr Allisdair Barnes.

In 1995 Dr Paul Brougham joined and became very active in teaching and delivery of obstetric care, with Dr Stephen Omifolaji in 2002 and then Dr Alex Phare in 2003 joining us to provide medical services at Breed Street.

Dr Marrow left the clinic in 2006 to concentrate on anaesthetics and in 2009 Dr Steer and Dr Barnes moved to practice in Mornington.

Dr Korapadi Alagaswarmi and Dr Suzi Mikhail started with us in 2007 while Dr Anu Prakash joined us in 2009 with Dr Zaw Thann, starting in 2011 and left in June 2017.

Dr Phare left and opened his own skin cancer clinic 2014. Dr Prakash returned to Melbourne in January 2015 and Dr Cristofaro left in 2015 to work full-time with nursing home patients, subsequently moving interstate.  Dr Elmore left in 2017 and moved to New South Wales.

Dr Nabeel Ahmed joined us in June 2016.

Dr Shoma Chowdhury joined the clinic in October 2017.

With patient numbers ever expanding, the clinic was enlarged in 2007, adding five consulting rooms on the northern side of the building.

Further expansion  took place in 2013 with a new nursing precinct, additional training facilities, new after-hours waiting area with improved after hours access.

The clinic has been engaged in training the next generation of general practitioners for many years, hosting Medical Students, and Registrars with mentoring by clinic general practitioners. Our nurses also support the training of the next generation of nurses by mentoring nursing students on placement from Federation University.
